DESCRIPTION/ABSTRACT: Undergraduates from all disciplines are invited to hear about funded summer internships opportunities in Pacific Rim research institutions, as part of the Pacific Rim Experiences for Undergraduates (PRIME) 2009 program. Interns spend the summer working as full-time researchers in various institutions that participate in cyberinfrastructure-related projects that are part of the NSF-funded Pacific Rim Application and Grid Middleware Assembly (PRAGMA), based at UC San Diego. This information session will also give students a chance to hear from participants in the Summer 2008 PRIME program, who went to one of seven countries: Japan, Taiwan, Australia, China, India, Malaysia or New Zealand. Attendees will find out how to apply for the internships that allow them to earn academic credit, gain research experience abroad, and contribute to the international scientific community. PRIME was launched in 2004. It is an NSF grant-based program with additional support from Calit2. Students gain experience and contribute to a global cyberinfrastructure that conducts new research. SPEAKER BIO: Gabriele Wienhausen, PI on the PRIME grant from the NSF, is Associate Dean of Education, Biology at UC San Diego. Peter Arzberger, co-PI on PRIME, is Chair of the Pacific Rim Application and Grid Middleware Assembly (PRAGMA). MORE INFORMATION: For more information, visit PRIME at http://prime.ucsd.edu. |
