DESCRIPTION/ABSTRACT:
This talk is part of the NanoEngineering Seminar Series organized by the Atkinson Hall-based Department of NanoEngineering of the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering.

Using a highly-interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Jinming Gao and his team at UT Southwestern are focusing on development of multi-functional nanomedicine platforms that incorporate tumor targeting, imaging ultrasensitivity, and controlled drug release for cancer-targeted therapy.

SPEAKER BIO:
Dr. Jinming Gao is a Professor of Oncology and Pharmacology and co-Leader of the Cell Stress and Nanomedicine Program at the University of Texas Southwestern. Prof. Gao received his B.S. in Chemistry from Peking University. He carried out his graduate studies under Professor George Whitesides at Harvard University, earning his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry in May 1996. Dr. Gao did his postdoctoral training with Professor Robert Langer at MIT.

In August 1998, he joined the faculty of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in Biomedical Engineering and Radiology in April 2004. In July 2005, Dr. Gao moved his lab to Dallas, Texas, where he currently holds a primary appointment as Professor (with tenure) of Oncology and Pharmacology in the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern and a joint appointment in Chemistry and Bioengineering at UT Dallas.
