06.03.05 – More than 200 researchers, post-docs, students and staff “got it started” in the UCI Calit2 Building courtyard last week. The group socialized over barbecued chicken, hamburgers and all the fixings, listened to music, won door prizes and came together as a community at the Irvine division’s “Welcome-to-the-Building” Bash on May 26.
Yee shared the Calit2 philosophy that the building is a living lab, where anything can happen. “The institute and the building are based on a foundation of collaboration,” Yee said. “Get to know your neighbors. Introduce yourself to everyone you meet in the building and share your ideas with your colleagues. Be open to conversations in the lounge areas, kitchens, elevators and other places outside of the offices and labs.”
Guests were treated to a barbecue feast prepared on-site as they mingled. The Rich Cozzi Trio entertained, and 20 lucky partygoers won door prizes that ranged from fitness club and restaurant gift certificates to a Trader Joe’s gift basket.
Calit2 staff members are planning to make the barbecue an annual tradition.
