"Explorations in community-oriented ubiquitous computing"
The ActiveCampus project aims to provide location-based services for
educational networks and understand how such systems are used. Two
applications are exemplary. ActiveClass enables collaboration between
students and professors by serving as a visual moderator for classroom
discussion. ActiveCampus Explorer uses a person's context, like location,
to help engage them in campus life. It provides a suite of location-based
services such as buddy presence and messaging and digital graffiti. Both
applications support both keyboard and ink-based communication. Our most
recent investigations concern the promise of the cell phone as a personal
computing platform.
